about “SocksArt” project
In the summer of 2019, I worked with my friend to create puppets of the characters from the fairytale story of Grimm’s “Town Musician of Bremen”. The materials used for the animals (Donkey, Dog, Cat and Rooster) were colorful Uniqlo men’s socks.
It was a magical project - transforming socks into stuffed animals. Since then, I’ve continued creating characters from the stories “Gogo”, “One-eyed Jack”, “Gouche the Cellist”, “And Tango Makes Three”, "The Grateful Crane", “The Three Billy Goats Gruff", and "Three Little Pigs" as well as holiday animal characters - such as the Thanksgiving turkey, Easter bunny, Halloween cat, and Christmas reindeer. And more…
The video versions of “SocksArt” are accompanied by music composed and performed by MIZU (Issei Herr).
My new web site “SocksArt Zoo” presents more animals I have created and the story behind each one.

In the summer of 2019, I worked with my friend, Mariko Suyama, to create puppets of the characters from the fairytale story of Grimm’s “Town Musicians of Bremen”. It was a puppet show project for the New York Japanese Children’s Cultural Society.
The material we chose to use for the animals, Donkey, Dog, Cat and Rooster, was colorful “Uniqlo” men’s socks.
We named it “SocksArt”.
